Janis Lyn Joplin (January 19, 1943 – October 4, 1970) was an American singer, songwriter, and music arranger, from Port Arthur Texas. She rose to prominence in the late 1960s as the lead singer of Big Brother and the Holding Company

Joplin was a pioneer in the male-dominated rock music scene of the late 1960s, influencing generations of musicians to come and was one of the best female rock artist to date. Her voice touched and pierced through hearts of many... She lives on with her music and her legacy.
