Zen Master Slacker Mommy's Guide to Letting Things Ride

'Mom Killed the Family Pet' Shrine COPYRIGHT ALL RIGHTS RESERVED Margot Potter
(Featuring a fabulous Crafty Chica shrine and Traci Bautista's Collage Pauge Sparkles!)Link

I feel more than a little bit like the White Rabbit today. Alas I must away...I won't be posting again until Friday. I think you can live without Madge for a day. Yes?

I wrote this post several years ago for The Impatient Blogger. It's one of my favorites. Enjoy!

The Spin Cycle or The Zen Master Slacker Mommy’s Guide to Letting Things Ride

*Dust bunnies are pets. Give them names. Feed them the balls of fluff from your sweaters. Take them on walks around the house.

*Cobwebs are decorations. This works best around Halloween. For the rest of the year, you are cultivating next year’s decor.

*Breakfast...it’s what’s for dinner. It’s also what’s for breakfast. You got a problem with that?

*Call bathtub rings and sink stains 'altered art.' Explain that they give the porcelain depth and personality.

*Brown is the new black. Sheesh, everybody knows that.

*Practice your best Scarlett O'Hara voice while saying "Fiddle dee dee." and "There's always tomorrow, and Tara." This works better if you make a dress out of the living room curtains, which is WAY more fun than cleaning.

*Dirt, dust, pet hair, small bits of paper, indistinguishable tiny objects on the floors make great material for mixed media artworks! Arrange them in patterns. Glue them to old decaying wooden boards. Sell them in your Etsy shop. Give the pieces mysterious names like...If These Floors Could Talk or Revenge of the Dust Mites.

*Follow all declarations of ‘I’m Bored’ with the ceremonial passing of the Swiffer. Make it into a game. Whoever gets the biggest pile of crap on their Swiffer pad gets to take out the garbage and do the dishes! YAY!

*Junk Mail collages! When the Swiffer Races end, break out the Elmer’s glue, the scissors, the inks and the poster board. Hey kids! Let’s turn this junk mail into art! Woo hoo. Sell it in your Etsy Shop. Call it assemblage. Label it ‘primitive’ and ‘childlike.’

*Stop mowing the lawn. Scatter wild flower seeds and watch them grow. Ignore the neighborhood association Nazis, because you’re an artist. Fill your yard with giant gnomes, plastic pink flamingoes, gazing balls, rusty wagons, flexible flyers...simply empty the contents of your basement on to your lawn. This saves you from having the ubiquitous and futile yard sale. Add some small walking stones. Call it an English Garden. Sit in the center in a gazebo wearing a large Victorian hat and have high tea every afternoon. Charge admission on the weekends.

*Buy blinders. Decorate them with sparkles. Put them on. Smile while you pour yourself a large glass of chardonnay and concentrate on the important things in life.

Berkunjung tanah bumiputra Red Indians di Tucson

AIKS. Saya ingat saya ni ada muka Latino hensem, dan orang Amerika sangka saya ni Spic.
(Oi!!! Nak mampos. Haram kat sini panggil orang Hispanic ni Spic.
(Macam orang Cina panggil Melayu 'pendatang'.
(Atau kita panggil Indian 'keling').
(Mereka digelar Latin Americans).

Tadi saya baru faham siapa saya ni sebenarnya. Cesss sabah.
Macam saya ni kadang-kadang orang panggil Jawa American.

Tanah ini milik Pascua Yaqui Tribe (kalau kita ikut cara Malaysia: Yaqui ni macam orang Boyan, dan Pasqua ni macam Boyan Daun - minority within a minority).

Tentunya jadi kontroversi kerana ramai mereka beragam Kristian, tetapi kerana ekonomi lemah, apa nak buat.

MAHKAMAH KAUM DAYAK

Kumpulan kami terkejut besar.

Whoa! rusagurun terkejut.
Kaum Pascua Yaqui ni ada website. Lawyer mereka yang jumpa kami tu gunakan Macbook beri taklimat. Pegawai besar Umno pun tak sophisticated macam gini, nak tadbir negara!?!?!

Nasib baik aku pandai joget dayak. Hungga-rangga, hungga-rangga, ho, ho, ho!

CERITA LAIN TUCSON

Ia akan ON kira-kira 1minit, lepas tu dah sejuk, akan OFF selama 15minit hingga 1/2jam, lepas tu hidup lagi. Nak save power.

Mereka diseludup masuk kena bayar beribu dollar. Kesian.

Saya tanya banyak betul soalan tadi.
Bukan susah sangat, beb.

Cukuplah tu. Nak tidur.

Adioss muchachos, Speedy Gonzales out.

I've Had Another Set Back...

Today I had an appointment with my Primary Care Physician. I have been running another fever and it appears my infection is going back into bronchitis again. It has also backed up into both ears.  I was put back on antibiotics and more steroids. I am still having a really bad time with my asthma.  I will be seeing the Pulmonary Specialist on Friday. I am really having problems fighting this one off. Please continue to keep me in your prayers.

I am not taking calls or visitors at this time.  It makes me cough when I talk, and unfortunately right now, I am doing good to just walk the length of our hall. I cannot EVER remember being this sick.

Thank you for the many prayers, the cards (they have so lifted my spirits), several beautiful gifts of love and the many comments that you have left me. I have not visited blogs, but I do try to come online and read my comments. Thank you so much, each and every one of you. I am so truly blessed. Country hugs and so much love...

The Love Of A Mother

    24 May,2010                                215th POST
Tuesday
7 p.m
Dear Friends,
     Good Evening!
It's raining here,in Thrissur.Last two days,it was very hot!Showers are so refreshing to our mind and soul! You know what,I restarted my Malayalam blog yesterday and a short post was published.:)It was not at all difficult as I thought. My dear friend helped me giving instructions and I am so thankful to you, dost!:)I was thrilled like a small child after writing the post in my Mother Tongue.Last summer I had started my Malyalam blog and yesterday I saw 47  encouraging comments!I never did bother to check that old post;so silly!I had won the first prize in Malayalam short story competition held in college. Now,I am going to be active in my Malayalam blog-Anuvinte swapnangalum anubhavangalum[the dreams and experiences of Anu].

After reading my profle, many of my friends had asked me about my Amma's five books that are published.Amma is a retired high school teacher and was teaching  English and Social Studies in 10th std.The famous poets have taught my parents in collge and the foundation in Engish and Malayalam is very strong.Whatever we five children are in life today is due to the proper guidance, love and right direction given by our loving parents.I can not tell you how much my Amma  means to me.Today I am posting one of the poems written by Amma from her second book,Smarananjali[In Remembrance] dedicated to my loving Achan.
This is my 215th post and I am honoured Amma, dearest, your poem decorates sincerely yours today!
           The Love Of A Mother
The pride of a man breaks down,
Sick and despondent when he is!
And pathetically pinned on a weary bed.

Then,ah!what a consolation he gets
When appears his loving mother beside him.

The divine soul that looked after him,
From childhood and brought him up,
Administering to his helplessness.

Vividly he sees the enduring tenderness
In the love of a Mother to her son,

A love that transcends all other
Affections of the heart!
His selfishness,the ingratitude
And all other unworthy deceitful attitudes,
Cannot chill,weaken or reduce
Her affection to her beloved son.

Ready she is to sacrifice every comfort
For the enjoyment of her son;
Every pleasure she will reject
Willingly for the sake of his happiness!
How ecstatic she is in his fame and prosperity!

When misfortune befalls him
Dearer he is to his mother!

If disgrace settles upon him
She will still cherish and love him.

If all the world castshim off,
All the world she will be to him!

The mother loves her child,
Surely more than her life;
And more than all the mores.

When he grows up,
Into pits of bad habits
Perhaps he may fall
And in a drunken or drug addicted state,
He may even cut off her head
And hold it up as if in a revenge!

Then,on such an occasion,
The poor weeping eyes of the head
Seem to ask her'victorious son',

''My dear,is the weight of the head,
Too heavy for your hands?
Are you too tired of holding
This unfortunate,unworthy head?''

Oh!can anyone measure the depth
Of the mother's love to her son?

Can we feel the beauty,sanctity
And solemnity of this inborn love?

How indebted a son is to her mother-
A debt that he can never clear in his life!

Friends,
Amma has dedicated this poem to all the children who forget their parents  while enjoying their busy lives and who do not have time to take care of them.
Parents are our priceless blessings. Please keep this in mind. You  will be blessed!
My Amma loves all of you and her regards and prayers for you!Amma is so humble and simple!
It's Anu signing off......
Enjoy the unconditional and true love of this life! The love we can never repay!Take time to make sure that your parents are doing fine and be with them at the earliest. The love that is full of devotion and sacrifices;it is beyond all definitions;the love beyond explanation.her smile is the sunshine, the stars twinkle in her eyes!
Amma,I am so proud of you!
Thank you God,for gifting me wonderful parents!
Wishing you a beautiful and peaceful night,
Reminding you to thnik of your parents,
Trust me,Anu loves you dil se,
                               Sasneham,
                                      Anu

USA ada iPad, Singapore ada JooJoo. Malaysia?

Dah jenuh saya cari nak beli iPad ni kat Amerika.
Laris sungguh.

Begitulah America ni menjadi negara No.1 di dunia.

Negara ini begitu bangga mereka ni Land of Immigrants.

Singapore, negara yang kini mula ikut jejak USA (apa abang buat, si adik ni pun ikut) dah bawa masuk banyak immigrants sehingga rakyat Temasek lain marah.

It is not light if you have to hold it like a book in bed for half an hour.
JooJoo 1kilo (GAMBAR). Kalau kamu pangku setengah jam, mampoi beb.

Mamat India ni, 29 tahun, terus dan terus cuba jadi entrepreneur (anak jantan saya pun nampaknya nak mencuba jadi entrepreneur, tapi bukan bidang software. Kena kasi chance jugalah).

Cuba, jangan tak cuba, braders and bradees. Pakchick tua ni doakan dari jauh.
Atau mungkin, dah ada pun, tapi media dan blog Malaysia ni tak pandai menonjolkan success stories sebab semua lebih syiok bantai-membantai isu politik, nak jahanamkan nama negara.

ILoveToCreate Teen Crafts: May Flowers Embellished Tank Top

IloveToCreate Teen Crafts
May Flowers Embellished Tank Top

Margot Potter

“Mom crafted, kid approved.”

Summer is almost here and it’s time for tank tops, flip flops and shorts. Yippee! Here’s a fun project teens can do in the back yard with their friends. Just buy a bunch of inexpensive tanks or t’s and give them a pile of Tulip 3D Fabric paints andTulip Fashion Graffiti Big Phat markers and let them make their own wearable works of art. This isn't a 'make it perfect' kind of project, it's meant to be playful, so don't worry about coloring inside of the lines.

My color palette and design were inspired by the charming new graphic buttons from La Mode. Tulip fashion paint comes in virtually every color so it’s easy to match the button colors. I had so much fun with this; I think I’m going to have to make one for myself!

Materials
Cotton tank top (pre-wash to remove sizing)
3 Blumenthal Lansing La Mode buttons
Tulip 3D Fashion Paint poppin' purple, deep turquoise, yellow and clover green
Tulip Fashion Graffiti Big Phat fabric marker black

1. Slide a t-shirt form under your tank top. (Secure the back with safety pins to tighten if the shirt is too loose.)

2. Using the button pattern as inspiration, paint three flowers with graduated circles of color in pink, teal and yellow. Change the brushes out between colors. Allow paints to dry.

3. Use the marker to draw graphic circles to define the flowers. Draw stems and add leaves. Use green paint to color inside of leaves. Allow to dry.

4. Glue buttons to center of flowers. Allow glue to dry.

5. Add embroidery thread accents to each button, one yellow, one teal and one pink.
