Salam Aidiladha (& cara Saudi kawal banjir)

Sehingga ramai maut.
Mujur Prof Hamirdin okay sedang khusyuk berwukuf.

Tetapi di kawasan built-up bandar, tentunya kalau tak hendak banjir, kena disiapkan sistem perparitan.
TAMBAHAN: Yang pasti itu berlaku dulu, 'bang. Saya ke sana 1997 dan 2000.

Kami di Temasek ni negeri kecil dikelilingi laut. Jadi kalau hujan lebat semasa air laut sedang pasang sudah tentu bahaya banjir sangat tinggi.
Jawapannya - jika anda pusing kota Singa, ada banyak longkang-longkang besar yang kosong 90 per cent of the time.
Minggu lalu, kawasan Bukit Timah (tempat orang kaya), banjir.

Kini dah Aidiladha.
Bayangkan rumah dah ranap, ada ahli keluarga maut. Pekerjaan pun belum tahu lagi, apakan nak menyara hidup.
Saya hanya dapat doakan dari jauh.

Selamat Hari Raya Haji.

Here's the news - No Singaporekini coming up

Professori of journalism at Nanyang Technological Univ, Mr Cherian George, asks why Malaysiakini has reached 10 years old but there is no Singaporekini.
The professori was once a senior journalist at The Straits Times.
Si mamat ni, whom I haven't met since the March 2008 general elections, can also handle photography very well (segan campur dengan orang bijak ni).
Dia punya qualifications, KJ pun kalah, saya baca pun takut:

  • PhD(Communication) The Leland Stanford Junior University 2003
  • MA University of Cambridge 1993
  • MS(Journalism) Columbia University 1990
  • BA(Hons) University of Cambridge 1989

See here and here. Mak oi.
He is well-known in Temasek after writing Singapore: The Air-Conditioned Nation, also the name of his blog. He was referring to little red dot, where the temperature for everything can be controlled! Hahaha, I like, I guess government didn't.

During 2008 Malaysian GE, he was in Kelantan for three days to see first-hand how things were. Oh yeah, he was there with his wife, Zuraidah Ibrahim.
Zuraidah, by the way, is (gulp) my boss. She is Foreign Editor at The Straits Times.
She was formerly the Political Editor - interesting Wikipedia entry. Tak tahu siapa yang tulis.

You just got to stop and listen, cause it has always been there. Do otherwise and rise..... I don't believe the world will end in 2012 rather a shift in consciousness. Mankind will awake.

I don't believe in luck, but I do believe in magic. I think luck is something people invented so they'd stop taking responsibility for their lives, it's much easier to tell ourselves that happy people are lucky than it is to accept that life is about choices. There is preparation and there is opportunity, luck is an illusion. Life is all about perspective. Every moment we can choose sorrow or we can choose joy. I believe that in each of us is an endless well of joy. You can keep tapping it over and over again and you will never run out. The glass is neither half full nor half empty, because the universe gives free refills.

Seriously.

Why are you even worried about the glass?

The more we focus on what we don't have and we didn't get, the less we are able see the abundance that is always there for us. At any moment we are free to erase the past and reinvent ourselves. We're only a victim if we choose to be. I choose joy. When we choose joy, the magic happens.

Life is not about the money or the stuff or the awards or the accolades, though all of those things are nice and it's okay to enjoy them fully. Life is all about the love we share and just like joy there's an endless supply.

I am thankful that somewhere along the way I realized that I was the captain of my own ship. I realized that I could take the wheel. I could choose to be sad about the things that happened in the past or I could focus on the moment. Every moment is an opportunity for joy and for grace and for love.

Thank each of you for visiting me here at this little blog of mine. Here is my advice, for what it's worth: Try to love more and judge less...that applies to you, your friends, your enemies, complete strangers...and to your artwork. Love is the key to joy.

Be in the moment, it is all you have.

Carpe Gaudium.

Seize joy.

Love,
Madge

PS: I'll be on QVC this morning at 11am EST with two fun items! Spongebob Squarepants chair and Munchables 2-in-1 pillow and blankie! If you miss me, you can always go to the QVC website and watch the video.

Thanksgiving Blessings

Happy Thanksgiving Bloggie Friends. I am so thankful for each and every one of you. You each have brought so much to my life and my heart each and every day since I began this blog on June 16th of this year. I have met Mom's, Dad's, Grammy's, PaPa's, writers, quilters, photographers, scrapbookers, artists, police officers, doll makers, gardeners, furniture refinishers, sheep herders, horse farmers, apple orchard owners, store owners, cake decorators, golf course workers, designers, cancer survivors, cancer fighters, airline stewardesses, and so many more of you.

You all know who you are, as I have came for tea each day with you, or just stopped by for a good old fashioned girl talk. You have lifted me when I was down, you have laughed with me and not at me, and made me feel so special on many, many occasions.

I am truly so blessed and loved by each of you, and I wanted to take a minute and thank you for being these wonderful people that you are. We make the most beautiful blogland that there is. We truly are a circle of friends.

As always, thank you for stopping by my little piece of heaven, here in the desert, that I so love to call home. Country hugs and love,

Karpal, don't be bizarre, ask for assurances

I find it strange that the "renowned" (Malaysiakini's term) lawyer Karpal Singh is asking for interrogation of suspects be conducted only between 8.30am and 5.30pm.
The reason is this: If something major and traumatic has happened, like a missing Canny Ong or Nurin Jazlin Jazimin, do we want the police to stop probing suspects (if there are any) at 5.30pm and begin again at 8.30am?
I bet you the same public would shout 'polis Melayu pemalas' and 'polis tak boleh harap' in a heartbeat.

I also think IGP Musa Hassan was wrong to just dismiss Karpal's push for investigation of suspects should stop at happy hours (after 5.30pm it's happy hours for lawyers, no? Or do they work through the night for important cases??).
Instead of saying all police stations should just close at 5.30pm and all police reports handed to Karpal (kau nak mampos, si pembangkang ni pandai cakap aje, bukan pintar buat kerja), IGP should perhaps give the public some assurances.

After all, in the death of Teoh Beng Hock and others in custody, the public anger is not so much about them being held overnight, but about tactics allegedly used behind closed doors.
The anger - imagine if you will, a relative of yours, a son or your father held overnight by police - is how they are TREATED DURING or AFTER office hours.

There should be the assurances asked and given by all sides.
Not some childish polemics for the sake of gaining imaginary points for your side.

In between interrogations, kasi depa makan nasi lemak dan minum teh tarik pun okay, kot? :-) Nanti depa syiok duduk kat balai, tak mahu pulang.
Itupun jadi isu nanti oleh pembangkang.
'Kenapa polis kasi suspect makan nasi lemak!? Siapa yang bayar!?'
'Kenapa tak kasi makan roti canai dan kopi kosong!?'
Macam-macam.
