Runaway Train...

This week has been thrown off completely...and I'm trying my best to catch the train but it's barreling down the tracks without me! Eek! Monday I took the day off to recover from Ranger U, Tuesday we had crazy storms and power outages, here it is Wednesday and I've got to get x-rays on my foot this afternoon so that's half of my day and I've got an overnight at QVC on Friday so I'll have to catch up on my sleep during the day. Good...grief...I need more hands!

Above is a simple design I created using absolutely yummy beads and chain from the folks at Auntie's Beads. I love these warm, autumnal colors. If I'm not sporting technicolor, I'm definitely at home in these shades.

I'm going to do a variation on this idea with the other beads they sent...totally different scale and design feel as you can see, but I'll do a similar asymmetrical approach with the beads on one side and the chains on the other. I'm not sure the scale of this pendant will work...so there will be some problem solving on that front. If it doesn't work here...I'll find another home for it!

I try to let the beads guide me. I hunt and gather and bring them back to the studio and eventually they tell me how they want to be combined. Just call me The Bead Whisperer.

Okay please don't...that's just weird.

I'll be back as soon as I catch that train...until then...craft on with your bad selves.

xoxo

How they prepare and boil the cactus, San Pedro?
The person in the video didn't go through it due to choice... So please don't try this without a supervision of an expert or a Shaman

The Following article below is written
by Richard Rudgley,
Source From: Mescaline

The San Pedro cactus is the name given to psychoactive species of the genus Trichocereus (T. pachanoi, T. peruvianus) which comprises about thirty species, mainly found in the Andes. It is a large columnar cactus that grows up to heights of twenty feet and it contains mescaline, as does the well-known peyote cactus. The San Pedro cactus has also been found to have other psychoactive alkaloids. The mescaline seems to be most highly concentrated in the skin, which can be peeled, dried and made into a powder for consumption.

The usual native preparation of the cactus involves boiling slices of the stem for a number of hours and then, once cooled, the resulting liquid is drunk. Sometimes the San Pedro is used in conjunction with other psychoactive plants, such as coca, tobacco, Brugmansia and Anadenanthera. The hallucinogenic properties of its traditional use, including aguacolla, cardo, cuchuma, gigantón, hermoso, huando and, of course, San Pedro.

Like many other of the entheogenic substances used in the aboriginal religions of the Americas, the use of the hallucinogenic San Pedro cactus is ancient and its use has been a continuous tradition in Peru for over 3,000 years. The earliest depiction of the cactus is a carving which shows a mythological being holding the San Pedro. It belongs to the Chavín culture (c. 1400-400 BC) and was found in an old temple at Chavín de Huantar in the northern highlands of Peru, and dates about 1300 BC. A particularly surprising discovery was made by a Peruvian archaeologist named Rosa Fung in a pile of ancient refuse at the Chavín site of Las Aldas near Casma; namely what seem to be remnants of cigars made from the cactus. Artistic renderings of it also appear on later Chavín artefacts such as textiles and pottery (ranging from about 700-500 BC). The San Pedro is also a decorative motif of later Peruvian ceramic traditions, such as the Salinar style (c. 400-200 BC), the Nasca urns (c. 100 BC-AD 700). It has also been proposed that a recurrent snail motif in Moche art represents a mescaline-soaked snail which has partaken of the San Pedro. If this is the case then the snail may be added to the list of animals having psychoactive properties.

Not surprisingly, considering their general contempt for native life and particularly the use of psychoactive plants, European missionaries were very negative when reporting the use of the San Pedro. Yet a Spanish missionary, cited by Christian Rätsch, grudgingly admitted the cactus' medicinal value in the midst of a tirade reviling it:

it is a plant with whose aid the devil is able to strengthen the Indians in their idolatry; those who drink its juice lose their senses and are as if dead; they are almost carried away by the drink and dream a thousand unusual things and believe that they are true. The juice is good against burning of the kidneys and, in small amounts, is also good against high fever, hepatitis, and burning in the bladder.

An account of the cactus by a shaman is in radical contrast to this rather contemptuous view:

the drug first ... produces ... drowsiness or a dreamy state and a feeling of lethargy ... a slight dizziness ... then a great 'vision', a clearing of all the faculties ... it produces a light numbness in the body and afterward a tranquillity. And then comes detachment, a type of visual force ... inclusive of all the senses ... including the sixth sense, the telepathic sense of transmitting oneself across time and matter ... like a kind of removal of one's thought to a distant dimension.
The entheogenic status of the cactus remains as strong today as it always was. Not only do its uses in shamanic trances and healing sessions continue but it is also used to combat more recent problems such as alcoholism. The peyote cactus used widely by the North American Indians is also considered a medicine against alcoholism and this parallel is all the more striking as both cacti contain mescaline.

Dear friends,

yesterday i was busy, shopping with ettan and family.the colourful and different world of pattu sarees and other stuff in the famous shpopping mall in trichur!i enjoyed for some time then i was lost!ettan was forcing to buy the saree, but anu refused.she just wants to be left in a book shop where she can spend unlimited time browsing the books and magazines!
then later in the evening, visiting the relatives made me feel nice.it's building the bonds, exchanging pleasantries, making each other feel better.
trichur is hot today,''rain ,rain went away''.i went out with ettan for a walk.on the way,we parted our ways and he went to guruvayoor.i walked alone and reached the book stall.there was not much selection and i had to satisfy myself with a magazine.

when anu is alone, she is descent, well behaved.amma reminds anu to be extra descent but she leaves that 'extra' at home and goes out!but she doesn't pass comments on the passers by!the roads of pooram city are full of garbage, leaving no space for the pedestranion to take a few steps.and the slabs are too dangerous, half opened, and the rest shaken!i lose my balance soon, and i need to hold nanda or ettan.when i'm alone and i hold the bike or the rider ,the cycle or the cyclewallah.imagine, the pavement was too high and to get down to the road i needed someone's hand.one young man was riding his cycle and he slowed down infront of me.i caught hold of the cycle and guys,he was losing his balance in the busy road infront of lord vadakkunnathan!he was shocked and i was also scared!with a sweet and long ''sorry'' i escaped the scene!but i can't forget his perplexed countenance.hey, guys,i am pure in thoughts!if i hold your bike or cycle or you next time, don't give me a startled look!i do that to balance my steps:)and not to unbalance your emotions!
i can never remember names and numbers! i call ramesh by rajeev, rajeev by rakesh and roshan by roopesh!and if someone calls me by the wrong name,i make a big issue!if my name is spelt wrongly, you get on to my nerves!i used to meet a little boy of first standard, playing in my neighbour's compound on sundays.he is so smart and i love small children.i used to call out and ask him his name;hey, even now i don't remember it was sumesh or sandeep::)the second sunday ,when he comes to play,i will ask him his name again.he started ignoring me.but i couldn't leave my chit chats with him.when i repeated it for the fourth sunday,he stared and told,''what is the point in telling you my name?you will forget again.so,i'm not going to tell you now''.no chocolates could lure him and anu lost all her self respect in front of a five year old!rightly said,''the child is the father of the man!'':)
but later i thought, the little one also has his self respect!

when i go out ,i meet my school mates and college friends.they recognise me,and will tell,''hey, anu, you've put on weight;but your smile is the same.could you recognise me?''and MY GOD!the last question i want to hear.i don't want to hurt anyone's feelings.i want to tell them how can i forget our funfilled days!but,no,names won't come to the tip of my tongue!anu is smart,''why not?how can i forget our break times and sharing lunch, cracking jokes!''''oh,please, someone is calling me,i will see you next time''!next time new tricks!sorry, friends!
i recall one incident!i was the college arts club secretary of little flower collegeand for a function i could invite two poets!can you believe,on the stage in front of the dignitaries,i addressed them wrongly by wrong initials and identities as both were ramakrishnans! My God!insulting the chief guest and guest of honour!again, with an apology,i escaped the embarassment!
friends,if i don't remember your name,or call you by wrong names, excuse me[i've taken anticiaptory bail].but i will never call you by names as some are fond of!
i was a very good student and i loved maths!i love solving puzzles and riddles!but, anu and numbers, never get along!you may be wondering why am i so mysterious!if i give you my basic details, the next question is for my mobile number!i don't know where my mobile will be!it's safe in a pouch and then in the handbag!i could never hear the ring tone!i'm not a mobile addict!i check the messages once in a blue moon, missed many important calls and lost the connections for ever!my mobile may be under the pillow,on the dining table or in the living room!and,i just don't know my number!someone smartly said,''no,problem;you don't remember;but give me a miss call.i will remember it for you.''but anu was smarter;''to give that miss call, where is my mobile now?''so,forget, yaar.''
when i ask someone for his/her number,i scribble it somewhere without the person's name and get confused whose number is that.so,anu asks the same question ten times and when she feeds the number in her mobile, she leaves a digit in between and struggles to reach the person, but of no use!when she told the problem to her colleague,he checked her mobile to his horror,he found out that most of the numbers were fed incorrectly-one digit less!anu must be awarded for her careless and carefree nature!
excuse her for not giving a call on time, not sending a sms,not giving a miss call.anu is simple and sincere.she remembers you while writing posts.each of your face is crystal clear in front of her!when the mobile is most needed, half the time will go in searching it!
i don't know my car number.numbers confuse me!before i leave trichur,i will learn nanda's car number.and if i try to reach out someone ,the wrong numbers will be typed and i land up with an unknown man!he asks me urdu and i reply english.people don't believe me i am forgetful or i can't remember the names and numbers!
i will never get a call from whom i long for and those sms in the morning sttopeed forever!everything else has aless charm.
so,i'm sure those who read my post will never ask me,''number please.............''anu is always out of range!
friends,
for the first time my red nokia is with me.i had received a sms three hours before and not yet replied!only in my train journey,i enjoy my mobile.
any suggestions?help me out of this mess!
after writing the post,i read out to amma and anu knows where to skip. with amma's blessings, each post is published!yes, the same way before writing an exam or before delivering a speech,i seek amma's blessings and shouts in excitement,''amma, this is my 60th post''.amma is cool.she replies,''do you want to increase only the number, not the quality''?
have a wonderful day!celebrate each moment of life!

i'm in a hurry to publish this,as my friend is leaving for chennai.he is areal source of inspiration!thank you my dear friend!

anu loves you all!
dear friend, far awy in the desrets, thanks alot for the cute little boy image!hey,he is so angry ,he may hit me if i ask his name again.i won't do it again!
sasneham,
anu

Ranger U

I spent the past three days at Ranger University. I'm now officially a fully certified Ranger Instructor. It was three information packed days of techniques and products taught by crafty rock stars Tim Holtz, Suze Weinberg and Claudine Hellmuth. We learned, we played, we explored, we questioned...and in true Madge fashion I made a ton of glorious messes. We made manilla tags as we went along of many of the techniques for reference later. A lot of folks made pretty tags, embellishing each one perfectly into a miniature work of art...but every technique made me wonder...what if I did this...or that...or added this? Therefore I have a bunch of pretty ugly tags...but a brain full of great ideas. Since I don't have to hang my tags up a store, it's okay! I took a ton of pictures...which I'd love to share...but I left my camera there. Oops. I promise to share later...scout's honor!

Ranger U is a three day 9-6 intensive overview of the Ranger product line. You leave with product and with ideas and fully certified. You learn synergistic techniques that integrate a variety of products you can apply to your specific disciplines. It's an amazing experience! You can go here to read more and to apply.

I was completely exhausted at the end of every day. It was so much information to process and I literally collapsed in my hotel room after dinner at around 9 each night. I'm still exhausted today, but there are a lot of ideas percolating in my brain. I wish they sold everything in gallon sizes, because I'd like to distress my furniture and my walls! I want to crackle and ink my supply drawers, emboss and paint my new TV stand...color wash my curtains...I'd distress the whole house if I could! I'm sad my new book isn't mixed media focused, because I've got some great ideas for making beads and jewelry. The bonus for you is that I'll be sharing them here and in my videos. I find it hard to concentrate on stringing beads these days when there are crafty potions to be brewed and new mixed media techniques to discover.

Thank you so much to all of the wonderful folks at Ranger for inviting me back. Thanks to Tim, Suze and Claudine for the creative inspiration. Big thanks to Patti and Mario for all of your hard work supporting the classes. Thanks to Robin Beam for introducing me to the wonders of Ranger products. It's kinda like Willy Wonka with crafty products instead of candy...which is like all the best stuff wrapped up in one glorious three day weekend!

Until tomorrow...craft on with your bad selves!

Madge

and after many years, when she settled down in trichur, nanda did thiruvathira kali with her friends infront of Krishna,in melpathur auditorium, guruvayoor.that's the spirit!

nanda,i have learnt the valuable lessons of life from you!you tell me often,to speak softly and there is strength in silence.you remind me how important is exercise in daily life.you show me the positive side of each happening.from you,i learnt,'let go'.you have a solution for every problem.how can i forget that you pampered me with numerous gifts?how can i forget the love you shower on us and the moral support you offered when we need them the most!
hey,but stop,the c.b.i work-''anu,to whom the love lines are written''?''amma is asking''.but anu is smarter!''nanda,for noone;just to make the post spicy[i bet,nanda,you'll never know''].

A NOBLE LADY

THE MOTHER OF BANYAN TREES

6p.m

5.6.2009

dear friends,

today, when it's raining heavily,i was recollecting about the importace of the day!morning when i was reading the news paper sitting outside, clearly i could listen to the talk on Enviornment day-5th june, delivered by a student of the near by school.last time when i came down for my holidays,i was thrilled about the slogan,''maram oru varam''.students were given the rare medicinal saplings and projects were planned for one the whole year.i just don't know what happened to those saplings.were they taken care of?are they still growing?last year shri shri has also distributed the famous 'kalpa tharu'saplings and nanda has planted one in the compound.it's grown tall now.looking at that ,i gratefully appreciate the noble deed that has spread to the nook and corner of our country!i love our environment.and i strongly believe it's my duty to let you know ,there's an unpopular personality among us who lives for a noble cause.last year,i reached her unexpectedly and i was very much interested in this great personality.often people those who leave an imprint need not be popular.

let me introduce Sala marada thikkamma to you.

she is not famous;hardly she attracts media attention.but, hundreds of banyan trees growing on the road sides of Banglore-Nelamangala route and the thousands of different birds which have shelters in these trees know her very well.thikkamma has planted all these trees.it's just because of the kind hearted lady, the travellers are enjoying the shade.

thikkamma is from hoolikkal village in magadi district in bangalooru.her husband is chikkayya.they had a small piece of land and they earned thier livelihood by farming and keeping the cattle.they didn't have offsprings.

fortyfive years before, one day chikkayya told thikkamma''let's plant the saplings.we will be blessed with kids''.and they longed for a child desperately.she wanted to sing the lullabies.thus the noble deed was begun.three kilometres away from hoolikkal village,on both the sides of NH17,the couple started planting the saplings of banyan trees.to protect these plants they took care by fencing them.there was scarcity of water.and can you believe, the couple struggled fetching water from distant rivers .watering these plants soon became a part of their routine.

just give it a second thought,my dear friends, for the last forty five years they continued living themselves with nature.they had to struggle to meet both the ends;even then they didn't forget about the plants on the roadside.the plants grew to trees, they were full of leaves and thousnads of birds built their nests on the branches.the walkers by took rest under the shade and two minds were filled with ecstacy and enthusiasm.they must have planted five hundred saplings.[and please have an introspection tonight''-have i planted even a single sapling''?]

life was not pleasant for thikkamma.her mother and brother fell ill.she was running around arranging money for their treatment.still she fondly remembered her trees.one after another tragedy followed her.first she lost her mother and brother.later her husband also left her for ever.adversity never comes alone.her relatives snatched the piece of land from her.the mother who enabled thousands of birds to build their nests, lost her own shelter.she had to leave her house andto wander seeking a shelter with a torn sac!

n.v.negaloor, the reporter of kannada daily,'prajavani'first wrote about her.thus the world came to know about the remarkable selfless deeds of ahumble lady.

thikkamma wa honoured by these awards-national citizen awardin 1995,indira priya darshini vrikshamitra award in 1997,sagar prashthi award.the government and n.g.os joined hand stogether to build ahouse for her.she was discussed in the legislative assembly.now, things are different.thikkamma is very active in discussions on environmental protection, different socities, and her suggestions are always accepted wholeheartedly.

thikkamma has only one request to the government.she wants afree bus pass to reach everywhere being an active participant of protecting our enviornment.

thikkamma dreams of the second life -not as ahuman biing but as aTREE.
i bow before you amma, for your blessed life!
it's anu signing off.............

Fiends,it takes,
''a minute to find a special person,
an hour to appreciate them,
a day to love them,
but then an entire life to forget them''.

please take time to live.
i'm sure you will say a prayer for thikkamma's long life......................
good night.....happy week end to all!

anu
