HIV-positive women in Chile are coming forward to say they were sterilised against their will after giving birth. A new report says legal loopholes and biased doctors are to blame. Women living with HIV in Chile, maintain that the government must take concrete actions to stop the abuse and humanise the treatment. These women hope that by speaking out they'll spark a wider national conversation and change the general public's attitudes. Al Jazeera's Pablo Fernandez reports from Chile.


China probes tainted blood scandal

A former Chinese government health official is calling for an investigation into a tainted blood scandal, which he says infected more than 100 thousand people and killed at least 10 thousand. For years, hundreds of people have protested over the tainted blood scandal and official attempts to cover it up. China's HIV and AIDS epidemic of the 1990s which is believed to have been caused by medical workers who had collected blood from poor villagers using dirty needles. Al Jazeera's Azhar Sukri reports.

Dry spell casts pall over fate of Brazil's Amazon jungle

Months of drought in Brazil's Amazon region is raising serious concerns about the future of the world's biggest rainforest. The prolonged dry spell has left the Rio Negro river at its lowest level in more than a century. Drone attacks stepped up in Pakistan

The US has stepped up a campaign of alleged drone strikes in Pakistan, despite the Pakistani military refusing calls for an operation in the North Waziristan region.

But the US Defense Department says Pakistan is not acting swiftly enough against armed groups in the region, and officials say it's hurting US efforts to reverse the Taliban's momentum in the Afghan War.Al Jazeera's Zeina Khodr filed this report from Islamabad.
