It was cloudy;but rains didn't reach the sand.May be today the state hosts the 41st International Film Festival Of India.The fun and actions begin today as Goa welcomes the delegates of the film festival.
The stage is set.For the next eleven days Goa will showcase the best of world cinema.It is a special occasion ,providing a common platform for film makers and cini buffs to get together and share their experiences.
Discussions,interactive sessions with fil makers and seminars will play a major and instructive role.E minent professionals in various aspects of fim-making will grace the occasion.
Ever since Goa has become the permanent venue for IFFI2004,the festival has grown in stature attracting ever increasing numbers of film enthusiasts.
The black and white as well as coloured movies linked to the golden era of Indian cinema are presented at the IFFI through through various sections;sections paying homage to the departed personaities,showcasing retrospective of the filmakers and so on.
The opening filn,'West Is West' which is a belated sequel of 'East Is East'[1999],at the 41st version of the mega film festival to be screened today is about an Asian family residing in the West[England]and trying to get back to their cultural roots.
This year,the birth centenary year of a number of film personalities is being celebrated at IFFI 2010 with the screeing of their filma.Fearless Nadia,popularly known as 'Hunterwali' because of a series of adventure films she acted in,will be seen in a1940 film called 'Diamond Queen'.The'propogator of natural acting' Ashok Kumar will be seen in songless courtroom drma,Kanoon[1960]and Bimal Roy classic,Bandini[1963].Motilal,another follower of the school of spontaneous acting,who was born 100 years ago will have screening of his two films Hrishikesh Mukherjee's 1959 masterpiece,'Anari' and Parakh'[1960].
Described as the richest film festival around the globe,with the prize money for the winners in its International competition section amounting to Rs.90 lakhs the 41st edition of the International Film Festival is open at the Dinanath Mangueshkar Kala Mandir in the city today.
The mega film festival,being organised on seventh consecutive occasion in the state is inaugurated by the Railways Minister,Ms.Mamata Banerjee;Yash Chopra was the chief guest,while popular actor Ajay Devgan was the chief guest.Film actor,Aftab Shivdasani and actress Gracy Singh compered the opening meet.The South Indian fim industry was represented by teh Dadasaheb Award winner,D.Ramanaidu,noted producer-director of films.
The opening ceremony was followed by a 20 minute cultural programme presented by Seher Foundation,Delhi,headed by Sanjeev Bhargava.
So,friends,it's time for fun,films and food.Enjoy and celebrate.
Special fod court is set up on the Campal promenade while Kingfisher village will showcase cultural and entertainment performaces during the festival period frm 7 p.m to 9.30 p.m.
