Like any other beautiful September morning,
I awoke, dressed for work, drove DH to the bus stop,
and headed into the office. I was sitting there working,
co-workers started to trickle in, and soon the TV's all about
the training facility were on. We were being told that the
building was under lock down, (I work at a government facility),
our freedom as we knew it was about to change forever.
We watched with horror as the first airliner flew into the
1st Twin Tower. Accidental we were being told, we all
had our faces glued to the screen as we were watching
playbacks, they were showing the actual fire, when out of
nowhere came another airliner into the second twin tower.
Smoke and debrie filled the air. You could hear the
sirens screaming as they hurried to the Twin Towers,
America had been invaded. But by whom? And why?
Our borders had always been open to any and all
that wanted freedom. We were the
Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.
All Americans stood glued to our TV's trying to find
out what had happend. Suddenly all planes were grounded
and our skies for the first time had no airliners in them.
It was as if time stood still.
Families trying to reach family members,
some of us contacted our spouses and headed home
to hold each other tightly. Our schools were closed and
the children put on buses to return home. We all shed tears
for the people trapped, the ones that had perished and for
the changes yet to be. So many of us just wanted to be
pinched and woken up. Was this real? Could this be
happening? We lived in the United States of America.
Lady Liberty stood in the harbor, tears
streaming down her face. "I tried to holler
but nobody could hear me. It all happened
so fast. Why? I ask you why? I have stood
in this harbor and allowed my torch
to guide you to freedom, showing you the
path to Liberty. Such a sad day."
People running, screaming, covered in ashes
trying not to look back, running for safety or
for cover from the wall of ashes coming at a
very fast pace. America watched in horror.
We all prayed, we cried, and continued to ask
WHY???
God held up each of the two mighty
towers for a half hour so that
the people on the lower floors
could get out. And when He finally
let go, He caused the towers to fall
inward rather than to topple over,
which would have killed so many
more people. The foundations of six
surrounding buildings were demolished
by the fall of the towers, but God
held them up for many hours until all
the occupants were safely evacuated.
And when the Twin Towers and Pentagon buildings
went down, God picked up almost 3,500 of
His children and carried them to their home
for all eternity. He also sat down and cried
that 19 of His children could have so much
hate in their hearts, that they did not choose him,
but another god that doesn't exist, and now
they are lost forever.
