Saturday August 22, 2009 - Update on Amy

Heidi and Amy - cancer free times for Amy

Heidi and her Dad left this morning for Oklahoma. Heidi wanted to spend some time with Amy, and Tony and I didn't want her on the highway by herself. so Tony had some leave and he took the time off to go with Heidi. Nice road trip for Dad and daughter. Quality time together. As I write this they are about 100 miles away from Oklahoma City. Almost there. Heidi is going to stay at the hospital with her cousin. Tony will drive on to Enid to stay with my folks. Heidi has not seen Amy for a couple of years so she can hardly wait. They each wanted a sister, didn't get one, so they adopted each other as their sister. Debbie has always said Heidi is more like her, Amy Girl is more like me. Isn't it funny how your kids turn out?

Amy has had a couple of rough days the last two days. I just couldn't blog about it, please forgive me. Her blood pressures have been really low, around 60/25 and normals are 120/80 or somewhere in that area, to give you an idea of the counts. Her oxygen level keeps dropping, and with both they are trying to figure out what the problem is and fix it. They are tweeking her meds because this may be part of it. It is finding that happy medium.

Debbie has been learning on how to care for Amy Girl. She had to change a trach yesterday. If for some reason Amy's trach would come out, Debbie has 20 minutes to get it changed. The Dr.s made her do one yesterday, and she said it was a little hard to see that large stoma in her neck and see all of the jauges in her windpipe. She made it through it tho. Amy is going to need care 24/7 and has to be watched the whole time, so Debbie and Richard will be taking shifts round the clock. Because Amy is on state aid they will not be getting any help from them with any health care assistance. The states sees this as not a necessity. Amy needs to be suctioned frequently and has to have trach care. Her feeding tube has to be hooked up every 4 hours to feed her. This is requiring care too, and Debbie has also had to learn how to connect her feeding bags, flush the feeding tube with syringes filled with liquid. Clean it, and do the healing care for it. She has had to learn about the oxygen levels, and her meds. They have also decided that Amy will never be able to eat again. She could aspirate and choke on it. The Dr. said she might be able to have a Dr. Pepper (Amy has loved them all her life) thickened with thick-it to make it the consistency of honey so that she could sip some down. That will be all. She has also lost her sense of smell, because she breathes through her throat now and not her nose or mouth. Amy started out only able to take 5 steps at a time, and basically be drug back to bed. Today she successfully made it to the nurses station and around and back. She is trying but it is very hard for her. She has had some ups and downs. This is going to be the hardest journey of her life. When she gets better from these two operations, she wil try to go back and see about more chemo at the clinic to shrink these (2) apple size tumors in her neck and throat area. We really need a miracle here to allow this wonderful Amy Girl a better life. We know that God can do it, as he already has performed miracles. She is a miracle!!!!!!

Thank each of you for your wonderful support. Your loving prayers and thoughts and bible verses. We could not have done this without you. Debbie gave me the job of carrying on her blog through mine, so that we could update everyone about Amy's care and health issues, and pray for those that need prayers.

Our family prays for everyone, not just ourselves. Please remember Queenmother MaMaws daughter, Rachel as she tries to recover from her very serious surgery. She is back home from the hospital for the 2nd time, but with no tubes this time. She needs prayers to get her strength back, and heal with a full recovery.

Please remember Traci @ (At Beneath My Heart). Her Mom, Wanda has just been diagnosed with cancer, they believe 95% sure it is gastric cancer that is in her stomach and has spread to her liver. Please pray for Wanda as she will begin chemo next week, and it is a very hard road for anyone to travel. Pray for Wanda's husband, Doug, Traci, and her Sister to have the strength to travel this road also. This is a family road trip I know I have been on this road trip for 14 months. Amy was originally given 6-8 weeks when they found this cancer. It has been 14 months that we have battled it, and she is still here to tell her story. God is so good.

My Precious Friend Marydon at Feedsack Fantasy has been under the weather and she needs prayers to get back on her feet, and start feeling better. It has been a rocky week for her. Please pray for her a speedy recovery. I love you Peanut Butter. Sending Hugs and Kisses your Way.

If you need us to pray for someone, please email me and we will add you/or them to our prayer warrior list. As always, thank you for stopping by my little piece of heaven, here in the desert, I so love to call home. I love each and every one of you. Sherry
