Update on Amy - Wednesday Morning

Today I wanted to share with you a picture that I have always
cherished of our Amy Dawn with Debbie. This was Amy's second Halloween and her first set of wings. Just look at her precious face.

We have had a very rough night. At one time her heart rate was 167. Way to high and very, very fast. Debbie kept talking to her and calling her name and was finally able to wake her up and calm her down. She has been continually twitching, this has to do with the tumor size and location. They came in and put her on oxygen. She has what is called obstructive apnea. The tumor is obstructing the airway which causes her to have this form of sleep apnea, only it is called obstructive apnea. It makes for a very restless night. Being hooked up to the machines that she is, something is always dinging or ringing, and she has a hard time resting. The Dr.s have now told the family that in 2 months tops, at the rate the tumor is growing Amy will have to receive a tracheotomy to be able to breath.

When the Dr.s came in they also explained to us the reason for Amy's severe pain that just started over night. When they went down her throat and moved things around to look and see about the cancer, it has caused a lot of swelling, as to whether or not this will be reversible we do not know. They have been doing EKG's and watching her heart. They are going to take a chest x-ray this morning as they are keeping an eye out for pneumomia. They brought a circulatory mattress in for her bed, that has air in it, and it continually circulates so as to move her even when she is resting. When Debbie gave her a sponge bath yesterday she noticed that she had a couple of red places on her backside, so they will be watching these very closely. Thus the mattress to keep her off the hard bed.

Debbie did get Amy up and walked her two doors down, it was very hard but we are trying to prevent her lungs from getting pneumonia. Today the Dr.s are also going to be discussing the peg tube. Their main concern is how they are going to get an airway to put her to sleep to do the surgery as the surgery will take at least 45 minutes. Right now she is getting no nutrition, just sugar water IV to keep her hydrated, but she needs food. We are holding on to hope that they will be able to figure out a way to perform the surgery she so desperately needs.

We need so many prayers out there this morning. Debbie told me, that until her last breath we will continue to have HOPE, so ladies we have a lot of prayers that need to be sent up today. Thank all of you who have been so kind to our family. Barbara @Purple Goat Lady got the family a hotel. Barbara thank you from the bottom of my heart. That hot shower was just what the Dr. ordered for Debbie. It revived her. Rebecca@ A Gathering of Thoughts, thank you again for visiting with the family and for bringing the muffins. What a lovely gift of pure love. Yummy for the Tummy.

We cannot begin to thank you all enough for your prayers and support during this critical time in our lives. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We love you all so much.

As always thank you for stopping by my little piece of heaven, here in the desert, that I so love to call home. Country Hugs and Love, Sherry
