PhD from Stanford, he's a cab driver in Singapore

A hot news item in Singapore is Dr Cai Mingje.
He is educated in a U.S. Ivy League university of Stanford.
Born in China, Mr Cai became a Singaporean.

He worked for 16 years as a researcher at the prestigious government-backed Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB). In simple terms, he was a scientist.
But he lost his job and is now a cab driver.
Wow.
He applied for many other jobs. Overqualified.

The story is here.
His blog, taxidiary, is now rising in popularity, though not as wildly popular perhaps as dawnyang.com and xiaxue.blogspot.com (and don't ask me why Singaporeans bother about the petty lives of young girls doing shopping, eating at restaurants and buying clothes! Gila punya kerja).

The lesson for those working in Singapore (including Pak-chic me) is this, I guess: You may be well qualified but if you get too old or too experienced.... there are always many young ones who are willing to take the same job at a much cheaper rate.
And employers prefer them cos they are seen to be more energetic and less ossified in their thinking.
With the influx of young qualified workers from all over the world into Singapore....
Sigh.
